Introducing the new NMcK; an independent specialist bathroom design studio.

Working as an interior designer for the past 6 years has taught me a lot and its been an exciting journey. From reimagining layouts, creating a whole new environment utilising a myriad of different materials, how to light a space with intention, to name but a few. But its not just design skills I have gained along the way, you also gain insight to the lives of the many different people you work with. I feel I’ve also somewhat earned an honorary psychology degree along the way, as really for me this job is much more about people than spaces.

Coming from a professional background, I have to be honest in that the early days after I made the switch to interior design were a struggle for my ego. I had gone from project managing clinical trial sites in Ireland and the UK and creating tech for Clinical trials as part of a production team, to fluffing cushions and cleaning apartments. But only for my vision on what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go, and of course the support and encouragement from my husband did I manage to take it much further. I never imagined being here though.

The switch to move away from whole home design to becoming an specialist bathroom studio has been about a year in the making. From a personal perspective, I am following what brings me joy and where I feel my abilities and expertise come to the forefront. From a business and professional perspective, I want to develop expertise in one area, and I see a gap in the market when it comes to independent specialist bathroom design.

Importantly, I have also developed processes which I have refined over and over again which each project, which is crucial in getting a project from start to finish. My time spent working in both clincal trials and on a production team was not wasted, I have recycled what I learned here and somehow applied to design. Achieving a high end restorative bathroom can’t happen by accident, and I know that my processes are one of my biggest assets.

Stepping away from what I have built over the last 6 years is terrifying to say the least, but I am holding strong in my new direction. While it feels like starting all over again, I am confident that I am exactly where I’m meant to be.
