Niamh McKenna is an Interior Designer specialising in bathroom design based in Galway City.

NMcK Design is an independent design studio founded by Niamh McKenna, specialising in considered, bespoke bathroom design.

With over six years of experience in residential interior design, Niamh brings together a background in science, lighting and interior design, along with extensive product and procurement knowledge developed through working in her own interior design studio.

Meet Niamh

Niamh's route into interior design was somewhat unconventional. Niamh studied BSc Neuroscience at University College Dublin, before moving to Galway to complete her MSc in Clinical Research at NUI Galway. She then spent eight years working in clinical research, developing an analytical and methodical approach to problem solving that continues to influence her work today.

After having her first daughter in 2019, Niamh decided to leave her academic career behind to fulfil her creative side and be more available to her family. In September 2020, Niamh set up NMcK Interior Design after working with her Estate Agent husband on some residential projects. In 2024, Niamh worked as a studio stylist for EZ Living Furniture. She subsequently studied lighting design at Griffith College Dublin, further developing her understanding of how light can transform the way a space looks and feels.

What began as a residential interior design studio has grown through years of working closely with homeowners to create considered, individual spaces throughout their homes. Through this experience, Niamh developed a particular interest in bathrooms; spaces where layout, functionality, lighting, materials, product selection and technical considerations all need to work seamlessly together. Today, Niamh focuses exclusively on bathroom design, bringing together over six years of residential design experience with specialist knowledge of bathroom products, finishes, lighting and procurement. Niamh takes a personal approach to every project, working closely with each client to understand not only how they want their bathroom to look, but how they want it to feel and function within their everyday lives.

The NMcK Approach

Niamh believes that good design should feel personal. Every project begins with understanding the client, their home and how they want to use their space. From there, each decision is carefully considered to create a bathroom that balances beauty, functionality and everyday practicality. Her approach is collaborative and personal, while her experience brings structure and clarity to what can otherwise be an overwhelming process.

From the overall layout to the smallest finishing detail, the aim is to create bathrooms that feel beautiful, work effortlessly and stand the test of everyday life.

The move towards specialist bathroom design is therefore not a beginning, but an evolution, bringing together years of experience and focusing it on one space.
