New Service Alert – Design on Call
I am excited to bring you a new service, aimed at those renovating or doing a self-build to provide ongoing guidance and support throughout your build.
Over the years I have visited many clients homes, who completed self builds 5-10 years previous, and were finally addressing their design regrets. It breaks my heart a little bit to see these mistakes, knowing they were made in haste, without any knowledge or consultation from an interior designer, and with your hard earned money gone into something that didn’t turn out perfect. I will also take this opportunity to remind you that your builder isn’t a designer, and while they can provide expert technical advice, you shouldn’t be asking them or taking their advice on lighting, tiles, paint colours, layouts, etc etc!
The most common regrets and mistakes I see include:
· Lighting (wrong position of pendants, too many spotlights, poorly lit areas, missing light fixtures due to decision fatigue, wrong type of light for its function)
· Paint (either painting the whole home white to avoid making decisions at the time, or colour choice regrets)
· Flooring (Floor regrets such as wood colour, tile choice, wrong type of floor (wood versus tile etc, wrong grout colour)
· Door openings (doors in the way, doors opening wrong way inhibiting function)
· Poor layouts and problems with functionality within the home
· Unfinished decisions
How can we prevent these errors, reduce sleepless nights, and improve the outcome of your project?
1. Plans review- I will provide this to every Design on Call client so you get eyes on your project with upfront suggestions at the start
2. Zoom call with me- lets chat about your project for 30 minutes over zoom and discuss any issues your having
3. Access to me every time you need to make a decision- choosing a floor? Text me. Picking tiles for bathroom? Text me. Deciding on paint? Text me. Doing an electrical walk through with your contractor? Text me. Need decisions on lighting? Text me. Want your kitchen plans reviewed independently? Text me. Choosing finishes for your kitchen? Text me. You get the point.
If you are building your own home, it is an opportunity that is not available when purchasing second hand homes. You have the opportunity to design your life, and by that I mean you don’t have to abide by the rules of conventional living. You get to think about, not just how you live but how you want to live, and design your home around the functionality you want to create rather than inheriting an existing (dys)functional space. Not only that, you get to choose every finish and control the outcome of the finished product at the beginning!
Often an exciting time in your life can quickly turn into stress and overwhelm, when navigating your own full time job, family life, and building a house. I want to support you on that journey so that at every challenging point you meet you have someone to reach out to.
As a one woman show, I can’t take on all of the projects I get enquiries for. And that’s a personal decision to remain small so I can stay flexible for my young family. However I do want to help more people realise their dream finished product, and so I bring you Design on Call to do just that. You no longer have to stand confused in a tile shop wondering what to choose, and have sleepless nights worrying about it.
I am opening 5 initial spaces to assess the workload of this service, and after that I will provide a waitlist.
